It's been a few months that I have not been able to write anything here. Hope everyone is well and our prince is well. I am well, just busy with kids and trying to recover my health and strength.

My thoughts and prayers go to Sichuan, China, where 7.9 earthquake occurred and took 12,000+ lives. I hope the people who are suffering will recover from their loss, be strong and hopeful, move on to build better life in the future. Following is a message I received from a friend, hopefully it is helpful information.

the American Rescue Team International (ARTI), the world's most
experienced rescue team. The information in this article will save
lives in an earthquake.

years. I have worked at every major disaster in the world since 1985,
except for simultaneous disasters.

Europe, and it was seen in the USA, Canada and Latin America on the TV
program Real TV.

The first building I ever crawled inside of was a school in Mexico
City during the 1985 earthquake. Every child was under their desk.
Every child was crushed to the thickness of their bones. They could
have survived by lying down next to their desks in the aisles. It was
obscene, unnecessary and I wondered why the children were not in the
aisles. I didn't at the time know that the children were told to hide
under something.

Simply stated, when buildings collapse, the weight of the ceilings
falling upon the objects or furniture inside crushes these objects,
leaving a space or void next to them. This space is what I call the
'triangle of life'. The larger the object, the stronger, the less it
will compact. The less the object compacts, the larger the void, the
greater the probability that the person who is using this void for
safety will not be injured.

'triangles' you see formed. They are everywhere. It is the most common
shape, you will see, in a collapsed building. They are everywhere. I
trained the Fire Department of Trujillo (population 750,000) in how to
survive, take care of their families, and to rescue others in
earthquakes.

names, addresses etc.]...I am the living example of the 'triangle of
life'. My dead friends are the example of 'duck and cover'.

1) Everyone who simply 'ducks and covers' WHEN BUILDINGS COLLAPSE is
crushed to death -- Every time, without exception. People who get
under objects, like desks or cars, are always crush.

2) Cats, dogs and babies all naturally often curl up in the fetal
position. You should too in an earthquake. It is a natural
safety/survival instinct. You can survive in a smaller void. Get next
to an object, next to a sofa, next to a large bulky object that will
compress slightly but leave a void next to it.

3) 3) Wooden buildings are the safest type of construction to be in
during an earthquake. The reason is simple: the wood is flexible and
moves with the force of the earthquake. If the wooden building does
collapse, large survival voids are created. Also, the wooden building
has less concentrated, crushing weight. Brick buildings will break
into individual bricks. Bricks will cause many injuries but less
squashed bodies than concrete slabs.

4) If you are in bed during the night and an earthquake occurs, simply
roll off the bed. A safe void will exist around the bed.

5) If an earthquake happens while you are watching television and you
cannot easily escape by getting out the door or window, then lie down
and curl up in the fetal position next to a sofa, or large chair.

6) Everybody who gets under a doorway when buildings collapse is
killed. How? If you stand under a doorway and the door jam falls

either case, you will be killed!

7) Never go to the stairs. The stairs have a different 'moment of
frequency' (they swing separately from the main part of the building).
The stairs and remainder of the building continuously bump into each
other until structural failure of the stairs takes place. The people
who get on stairs before they fail are chopped up by the stair treads
- horribly mutilated. Even if the building doesn't collapse, stay away
from the stairs. The stairs are a likely part of the building to be
damaged. Even if the stairs are not collapsed by the earthquake, they
may collapse later when overloaded by fleeing people. They should
always be checked for safety, even when the rest of the building is
not damaged.
千万不要走楼梯，楼梯与建筑物摇晃的频率不同（他们和建筑物的主体部分分别晃动）。楼梯和大楼的结构物发生不断地碰撞，直到楼梯发生构造问题。人在楼梯上时，会被楼梯的台阶割断，这是很恐怖的毁伤！就算楼梯没有倒塌，也要远离楼梯。楼梯就像大楼的一样会被损坏。哪怕不是因为地震而倒，还会因为承受过多的人群而坍塌。所以，我们应该始终首先检查楼梯的安全，甚至建筑物的其他部分并没有被损坏。

8) Get Near the Outer Walls Of Buildings Or Outside Of Them If
Possible. It is much better to be near the outside of the building
rather than the interior. The farther inside you are from the outside
perimeter of the building the greater the probability that your escape
route will be blocked.
尽量靠近建筑物的外墙或离开建筑物。靠近墙的外侧远比内侧要好。你越靠近建筑物的中心，你的逃生路径被阻挡的可能性就越大。

9) People inside of their vehicles are crushed when the road above
falls in an earthquake and crushes their vehicles; which is exactly
what happened with the slabs between the decks of the Nimitz Freeway.
The victims of the San Francisco earthquake all stayed inside of their
vehicles. They were all killed. They could have easily survived by
getting out and sitting or lying next to their vehicles, says the
author. Everyone killed would have survived if they had been able to
get out of their cars and sit or lie next to them. All the crushed
cars had voids 3 feet high next to them, except for the cars that had
columns fall directly across them.

10) I discovered, while crawling inside of collapsed newspaper offices
and other offices with a lot of paper, that paper does not compact.
Large voids are found surrounding stacks of paper.

Talent BYJ, taking rest in US after finishing drama 'TWSSG', visited Washington on 11 and serve a mass for Grand Celebration Day for Descent of Holy Spirit at DC Joomingonghyeon Catholic Church with family of his acquaintance.

BYJ left for New York on that day, after taking commemorative phototaking with believers.

May 11, 2008, a special day - it is both Pentecost and Mother's Day.

May 11, 2008, a special day - BYJ attended Mass. So did I.(So happy!!!)... I've always been hoping HRH will take the Eucharist once in a while, as often as possible. It is such a treat to read that he did, especially on this special day. I am sure he did that not only for the Pentecost, but also for his mother, on this beautiful Mother's Day, so far away from home. Again, on this Mother's Day, I would attribute this special song, one of my favorite Marian song to YJ's mother:

April Poem

Latest news: Pope just left New York, He is in. Happy to think that we are breathing the same air, watching the same sunrise and the same moonlight in the same time zone (Thank you Gosijo for expressing it so nicely). Heard there will be bae fans gathering at the airport to greet him. I am happy that he has an "extended" family that makes sure he is always greeted by someone when landing at any airport in the world.

Some sisters are having April snow this year in Canada, even in Vancouver as Coco reported. Isn't is rare to see snow in Vancouver? Isn't it super rare to see snow in April in Vancouver? Isn't it because our HRH is stepping on the North American ground? Well while he is walking on the American ground at the east coast, the west coast is echoing with pure white snows. Generally speaking, on the east coast, we are having sunshines, blooming flowers, chirping birds, a beautiful spring to welcome our prince. A poetic April for he is here!

The joys of having children is that one will never stop having fun of learning new things. One of the things I learned recently is that April is American's National Poetry Month. Excuse my ignorance, I just got to know there is a "National Poetry Month" through my 6-grade boy. Looking back a month, now I started to see why he got a language art writing project starting in March creating, designing, assembling a booklet of 8 self-composed poems.

One March day at one of our afternoon piano lessons, while it was the time for the older boy to having lessons, the younger one would do his homework, and that day he was staring at the picturesque scene through the sizable window of our teacher's house situated in a peaceful woods, and murmuring out the words like "nature's flawless beauties...". I was thinking, wow! what poem is he making? This sure sounds like describing our prince ...

Weeks later, when in the early April, his poem booklet was back, with teacher's comment "I love it" and a full mark on the poem of which I heard ... "Nature's flawless beauties..." I was curious to see what he wrote. There I found the page that holds that little poem, with his hand-drawn illustrations.

Naturally I asked him, why was the poem written in a staggered way. Then one more thing I found that I learned was - this poem's style is called "stair peom", in which you are required to write the poems in stair forms, one line beneath the other, each line shifted left to make up a four level stairs. The first line is a summary of the object. The second line is where and/or when about the object, the third line has to consist 3 adjectives describing the object, and the last line will be the name of the object. My son, growing up and fascinated with woods, wrote these little verses:

(I have a hard time to format it correctly as it should be in the stair poem format. This is the best I can do with this blogger. Just imagine that it is in the format as illustrated in the above picture.)

It's a simple poem, but somehow it sticks to my mind. The more I think about it, the more I am feeling it was written to my prince HRH. The more I savor on it, the more I think about HRH and tend to do a little mod to suit my feelings:

Majestic, Lofty, Timeless
BYJ

Thinking one step further, I tend to connect the trees in son's poem with our HRH in the mod version. In my mind, BYJ is just like a unique tree we found in the woods, a tree that we decided to give extra care for, a tree that we watch intently, to anticipate it growing healthily, happily, prosperously. Our love is like the soil, that the tree draws strength, courage, inspiration from.

Thinking one step backwards, I recall an old post I did for the book I read "The Little Prince". In there you'd read the Little Prince has a special rose to take care of. Here I realize that I have a special tree - BYJ.

Sapphire pointed to us another article from Beijing Morning Post dated 2008-03-31. It's about BYJ's Have We Really Loved, my favorite drama. Here is the original post.

《我们真的爱过吗？》里的姜在豪就像困死在松脂里的小虫，但不是一个无奈的失误，它是美丽珍贵的琥珀。

那一夜，看裴勇俊主演的《我们真的爱过吗？》(又名:来世还等你)，看到姜在豪因为失去了苦心经营的蟹行工作而失声悲嚎，不停地回忆往日的不易和曾经的安慰，不停地喝酒流泪，我也跟着他哭，哭得很伤心。

哭的时候，我想起自己的一件往事。那是工作几年以后，我跟单位里最大的头儿起了冲突，得了个留职察看的处分，我真想一走了之。我妈妈说，你有多大把握再找到合适的工作？稳定下来不容易，忍一忍吧。我夜不安眠地想来想去，想起的全是这些年的不易，终于忍过去了。

现在这件事我们单位里的人也都淡漠了。只有我自己，冷暖自知——姜在豪，轻而易举地勾起了我一些隐藏在生命深处的灰暗而感伤的回忆。

《我们真的爱过吗？》中的姜在豪，出身贫寒但很自尊，白天读书，晚上去蟹行辛苦工作（像咱们的海鲜摊贩），只是想把自己和妹妹弄得体面点儿。但这样的生活让他觉得很累，所以他想追求到一个富人家的千金，好让以后的日子不这么辛苦。他的想法卑微得令人心酸——车是二手车，名牌表是水货。但裴勇俊赋予了这个角色高贵的气质，即使在被富家女友识破了贫穷的真相时也让人不觉得他可怜委琐，反而感慨人生对他真是不公啊!

裴勇俊演的姜在豪，像上帝的弃儿!

当在豪被朋友害得失去了辛苦多年攒下的生计，最疼的妹妹也不理解他，满腹伤心无处诉说时,他只能去找自己默默爱恋的女教师信英。在校园里的一处台阶上，他低声对信英说：“给我一杯茶吧。”那一刻,姜在豪,或者说裴勇俊,像一个受尽委屈的小男孩终于来到了妈妈面前，脆弱、无辜又透着隐忍着的自尊和不自觉的爱情。戏中的苦难和裴勇俊的表演皆如静水深流，看似波澜不惊，却有让人窒息的疼痛，无声而惊心。

喜欢看裴勇俊演《冬季恋歌》的李民亨、《情定大饭店》的申东贤，但那都是混出头的人了，他们的苦难和失意都是戏。你知道是一场戏。坐在台下看人演上吊，哭肿了双眼，心里依然可以有迷离婉转的音乐。可是在豪无论怎么痛苦挣扎，却总像在那一束舞台追光照不到的地方。你看见他身上覆盖着真实的暗影，最终以死亡留下一摊难以收拾的破碎，想起的全是自己真正有过的困窘和伤心。

看舞台上美丽的天鹅之死和回忆自己曾经养过而终于没养活的小金鱼，感觉完全不同。

裴勇俊演姜在豪的经历和体验，所付出过的代价和品尝过的失败苦涩，恐怕也是唯一的，难忘的。

1999 年，裴勇俊以辞演KBS的《纸鸢》为代价，执意出演这部戏，渴望在演技上有真正的突破，为此他遭到了KBS长达三年的封杀。适逢韩国经济萧条，这部沉郁的悲剧，如今在裴勇俊的影迷中仍被公认为极具艺术价值和思想深度的代表作，在当时却收视低迷。此后裴勇俊在韩国演艺圈消失两年……

姜在豪似乎被彻底埋葬了,犹如剧情中一样死去了。他埋葬在裴勇俊的1999年，也埋葬在我的观剧记忆里。这部剧我只看了一遍，至今不敢重温。

但是，这是一种不忍触动的静默，与遗忘和忽略无关，却有着真切的痛楚和深刻的珍视。

我大学里读当代文学史时，老师讲到朦胧诗的鼻祖北岛的一节。很多人津津乐道于他的《回答》、《迷途》，可我却独独爱上了他那首冷僻的《岸》：

四下眺望

守护着每一个波浪

守护着迷人的泡沫和星星

当呜咽的月亮

在豪这艘穷孩子的小船，也是那样勉力地寻找和追随着属于他的几星灯光。接近了，又错过，得到了，又被风吹灭。当最后一盏红纱灯终于飘落在他的船头时，他找得太疲倦的双眼却永远地闭上了……

但在豪需要人可怜吗？

我摇头。如果这样，他一生的自尊会一起来抗议。就像看到困死在松脂里的小虫，你会有敬意。它不是一个无奈的失误，它是美丽珍贵的琥珀……在戏的最后，他失明，失聪，灵魂却被卸却了一切世俗的枷锁，怆然而恬然地立于上帝的面前，他死的时候，脸上带着婴儿般的表情……

在裴勇俊的所有演出中，在豪最让我对他的演艺生涯充满敬意。他赋予生命的不是一个角色，而是一种灵魂的历程。

还记得小的时候在妈妈怀中听妈妈唱着摇篮曲或是讲着童话故事,你慢慢地进入梦乡?我们幼小的脑海中洋溢着公主,仙女教母,美丽的女孩和奇妙的魔术.有趣的是,无论我们在世界的哪个角落, 不知怎么我们都会听到象Cinderella, 白雪公主,睡美人这类同样的故事. 童话故事真的已经成为我们成长过程中珍贵的一部分,不是吗?

It's this Bae-ry quiet period again. And we don't know how long it will be. Every Bae sister's patience, endurance and elegant neck are growing stronger and longer. Fumi-san just wrote an article on JOB describing this scenario - all eyes are on BYJ's any tiny move. Where is he? What is he doing now? What is his next project? Every other day, there comes news about him visiting Gorilla, or beauty salon, or he has cut his hair (then maybe not), or he is going to perform in this movie or that drama... As eager as we can be, we found ourselves back to the old familiar routines - repeatedly watching his DVDs, relearning his personality through his past interviews and fan articles, circulating his news and VOD/photos, the lucky Korean and Japanese fans can even dine out in his restaurants, or attend his concerts, watching his dramas together in the theaters. Desperation is the mother of creativity. Here is one more thing that we can do to decipher him through his recent product offerings - BYJ Classics The Scenes.

Two years after his first offering to his fan-family the first series of his favorite classical music collections - BYJ Classics Hero 34 (released when he was 34 years old), now we are in the spring of 2008. What do we get this year? Not "BYJ Classics **** 36", but the "BYJ Classics The Scenes". A bit Surprised first, but think twice, it makes so much sense. Being a professional in drama making field, AND a music lover, is it fair to think that combining the classical drama scenes and music masterpieces into a series of music albums offers a perfect vehicle to communicate part of his inner world to us.

It's Mozart Piano Concerto No. 20. Just recently I found out that this is widely rated as the No. 1 of 100 greated piano concertos in history. No wonder!

Uchida is usually rated as one of the best Mozart piano performers. The reviews said she plays Mozart the best, but lesser on Beethoven pieces. To me she is good enough.

许多年前的一个春夜，我曾因为在电视里蓦然看到一位已故歌手的醇美吟唱而被触动，在夜色里,感动低回于心。
更远的许多年前，我曾在一个晴朗的午后走过学校后面的小书摊，买了本杂志，上面有一篇文章是写一位我不熟悉的演员的，题目是：无尽的理想。我爱上了这个题目，尽管我还是忘了那位演员的容貌和名字，但我喜欢看见这几个字的午后。
在这些记忆里我总是能一次次明了自己是个爱美的人，有时会对生活的尘嚣微微地侧转过脸，在心的片刻寂静中倾听我心中花开的声音。那时候我还不知道世界上有个叫裴勇俊的人，不知道有一天我会成为这个人的影迷。

晚上得空时没忘记心里这回事，就拿出相册翻看。照片下方都有时间，于是我找到小孩五个月时六个月时一个个时期的清晰的影像。真的，我记得，我记得捏住她小手小脚时肉乎乎的感觉，我记得小婴儿身上特有的体香，也记得在她还不会坐时，我竭力张开手掌托着她后背抱起她时的那种小心翼翼和柔软心怀……一切一切，像一潭温泉，全在我心里，可是，她穿什么衣服什么鞋子一个个具体的样子，真的记不分明了。
原来，记忆和照片完全是两回事；原来，常常，记忆并不需要什么具体的样子。

只稍稍长大一点，到国际饭店门前来来往往就变得不稀奇了。可是那幼年的激情狂奔，傻吗？不值得吗？应该是吧。但我为什么要那样去批判那颗年幼的心？我只会记得，有过这样一个快乐而有趣的经历。
长大以后，想起那些童话故事，孙悟空、匹诺曹、神笔马良……依然会发自内心地微笑。它们本来就没有真的实现过什么神奇，不能忘的，只是那种快乐和梦，陪伴过我们的成长。

Yonsama and Manga "Drops of God"

Bae-land has been excited about the BOF message confirming that HRH is deeply interested in the TV production of Japanese manga "Drops of God", refer to bb's blog "on that manga again".

A number of sources confirmed that this comics series is very popular in Asia. Another interesting trend is that lately Asia is coming up on appreciating wine culture following the European tradition. Taking into account that our HRH is a well-known wine lover, I think taking on a role in the drama "Drops of God" is a great project for him, especially it looks like a rather safe one concerning wuri yong joon's health. Talking about HRH's interest in wine, an old bb's post came to mind - "wuri yong joon & wine..." posted on June 11, 2006.

Thanks to die-hard fan Judy, who forwarded us this piece of posting that really gave us a good sense of the popularity and potential of this manga series. When talking about potential, I do mean business potential. Wouldn't this drama fit perfectly to our HRH who has all the charming elements plus the shrewd business mind? The only concern I have is which of the two major roles he is going to pick? I am wildly thinking why don't they modify the script a bit to make the two brothers as twins, so that wuri HRH can take on both roles, that would be a new challenge our prince loves, well he'd better get double pay, but boy we are gonna see him double chances in each episode, fans are going to have a blast.

Divine drops

An unusual comic series about fine wines is the toast of the wine-drinking lot.

THE aroma is like a rock concert, with notes of butterflies dancing over a pond and an aftertaste of Jesus Christ and his disciples.

Wine reviews with a twist are a speciality of Kami no Shizuku (The Drops of God), a manga series that has taken Japan by storm, is conquering South Korea and China, and has boosted European wine sales along the way.

Written by a brother-and-sister duo of wine enthusiasts, the manga combines a mystery plot with a playful introduction to European wines. Think The Da Vinci Code set in a Tokyo bar.

“The minute it was translated into Korean, we had calls from three importers,” said Basaline Granger Despagne, whose family has grown wine near France’s Dordogne river for 250 years. Their Chateau Mont Perat 2001 Bordeaux appears early on in the manga.

“When it was translated into Chinese, people called us from Taiwan saying, ‘I bought some Mont Perat and sold 50 cases in two days because of the manga,’” she said in a recent phone interview.

In South Korea, businessmen drop names from the serialised book into chats with reporters and shops display “Drops of God” signs.

Wine industry experts believe part of the manga’s appeal is that it teaches readers enough about wine to understand the drink and impress their friends, but does so in an entertaining way.

The main character of the manga, a young man called Shizuku Kanzaki, discovers the beauty of wine after his father, a famous wine critic, dies and leaves an unusual will: a description of 12 wines he considers to be the best in the world, comparing them to Jesus Christ’s disciples.

The first person to find these “disciples” will inherit the father’s wine collection, a contest that pits Shizuku against his adoptive brother, Issey Tomine, who works as a sommelier.

It rocks!

Their quest to find the “Drops of God” is illustrated by double-page manga graphics visualising the heavenly wines.

A dark, dark forest with a pond and the aforementioned butterflies depicts the taste of one “disciple”.

Shizuku’s first sip of Mont Perat, on the other hand, triggers a vision of blurred faces, guitar-strumming musicians and raving fans.

“I know what you mean – it’s like Queen!” Shizuku’s friend, a barman, exclaims, referring to Freddie Mercury’s rock band. They go on to compare the wine’s acidity to Mercury’s voice, wrapped in the thick sound of guitars and drums.

Yuko Kibayashi, who writes the scenario for the manga with her brother Shin under a pen name, said the idea for the series came to them when they tasted a Burgundy wine that impressed them so much they turned into wine aficionados.

In an e-mailed exchange recently, she said the manga is not sponsored by anyone and they choose the wines based on their own independent research, including trips abroad and tastings.

“We mention wines that we’ve actually drunk and felt were delicious,” Kibayashi wrote.

“The kind of ‘betrayal’ of writing that a wine we didn’t like is delicious would pose the danger of destroying the manga.”

Kibayashi’s view is reflected in the manga, where wines costing 1,000-2,000 yen (RM27-RM55) spark just as much excitement and colourful visions among the characters as pricier liquids.

The thirst for wine

Umberto Cosmo, an Italian wine producer, was thrilled when his family’s much-loved Colli di Conegliano Rosso Contrada di Concenigo appeared in the manga. The Cosmos drink their Colli di Conegliano red with meals at home, and that’s how it was presented in the manga: a good, moderately-priced table wine for everyday enjoyment.

Speaking by telephone from Italy, Cosmo said sales of the wine jumped some 30% after the manga came out.

Drinking wine the way the Cosmos do – in a relaxed setting, with friends or family, accompanied by simple food – is a familiar concept to most Europeans, but not to many Asians.

Wine remains an expensive status symbol in much of Asia, to be savoured in a top restaurant complete with a haughty sommelier as stiff as the starched white tablecloths.

Japan probably has the most developed wine scene in the region. At a recent wine-tasting in Tokyo’s Grand Hyatt hotel, row after row of Japanese wine lovers were expertly slurping, spitting and taking notes as German sommelier Markus Del Monego explained what they were drinking.

“In Europe, wine is a piece of grown culture. Europe has been shaped by wine for centuries,” said Del Monego, a former sommelier world champion who frequently travels to Asia.

“In China, the wine scene is just emerging. It consists of a very small part of society that’s very price-oriented, because it’s in an exploratory phase. That phase has already passed in Japan,” he added.

Early next year, The Drops of God will be published in French, possibly followed by Italian. The original book series is expected to continue for another five years or so, and there is talk of a film.

All this is likely to further stimulate the thirst for wine.

Briefly, this Mozart piece is from his Piano Concerto No.21, movement 2 Andante. This is one of my most favorite Mozart. Whenever I listen to it, I think about HRH. It makes me think the two share some common qualities - the more you repeat listening (Mozart) or watching (HRH), the more you love them. Both bring beauty and peace to my mind. Both endure the test of time. For this I love!

Today's Readings : A glimpse of how HRH works - bb's "an angel's smile". The way our HRH treats his work is phenomenal. Don't forget, there is another bb's translation that I love dearly, click here to read TWSSG PD Yun, in an interview describing how YJ works. PD Yun called HRH tiring. He tires people out with his desire to perfection. I can tell HRH has extraordinary energy that can tire a lot of ordinary people out. I am thankful the first time not being his co-worker. I'd rather settle to be his viewer and supporter, hehe... I am never tired of watching him, reading about him, thinking about him, and whenever I can, writing about him.

Today's Thought : "Man shall not live by bread alone" ... is it fare to say that it is the art that nurtures your spirit, the art is like the vitamins to our spiritual needs? Our HRH works so diligently to present his works as perfect as possible. He is seriously treating his works as arts, to me they are the Vitamins B. A. E.. I am less happy if I don't take my vitamins B.A.E everyday!

Most of us need to work in order to put the bread on the table. For the fortunate ones, they get to work on the things they enjoy. At the end of the day, other than the genius who enjoys their work 24-7 throughout the year, most of us feel weary and stressed after a long day of work, be it inside or out of the house. I am a workaholic, I unconsciously look out for work to do. Most of the time, I found myself signing up for too much. But even if I get the most enjoyable work to be busy for 14 hours a day, still I need to wind down after working crazily like this for 5 days. I did realize that watching TV is one of the easiest ways for relaxation. Think this is the case for most of people, everyone needs certain form of entertainment to relax. Thanks to the invention of motion pictures and TVs, a significant portion of today's entertainment involves TV watching or movie going. So the world need entertainers like HRH whose careers are to provide entertainment.

However, HRH is no ordinary entertainer. An ordinary entertainer offers entertainment and the audiences receive it. Mostly this is a one way activity, audiences typically receive the entertainment in a passive way. Having a significant amount of fans who enjoy his performances is one of the measurements for a successful entertainer. HRH is unique, his work does not stop at just providing entertainment, he strives to make his works to be appreciated as art. His fans are unique too. They do not stop at merely enjoying his performances, they create artworks with their various talents, sometimes I think their own work offer each other entertainments as well.

There is another word that fits better for this type of entertainment, it is called recreation. Recreation is a type of entertainment which the individual is actively engaged in for amusement or satisfaction, instead of for mere leisure. Normally when we hear the word recreation, we think about sports that is outside of our houses. But today being in the bae family, I noticed there is a unique type of recreation that can be done at home, in front of a computer, on the internet, with inspired thoughts on HRH, based on this man's works, people are carrying on all kinds of creative activities such as making MVs, poems, drawing, slideshows combining music and HRH pictures, translating articles into different languages, and so on, and so on. One great example is the TWSSG Filming Diary. It is the accounts of TWSSG shooting observations made by staff members, fans, (I don't really know) and was published on the TWSSG Official Making Book, originally written in Japanese,translated into Korean by eojinee, translated into English by suehan, and to Chines by Lynnzhoulily. These translations are posted on various bae-sites, including baidu.com, quilt, and bb's blog, etc. for sharing.

Here let me share a MV made by a dear sister JillC, one of the web hostess at www.truelovebyj.com. This is one of my most favorite TWSSG artworks, entitled "The Legend". Some of you must have seen it before, I am keeping it here for the record, and for viewing it conveniently whenever I can.

Now with the intensiveness, seriousness, and high quality of these recreational effort, I do think that they should be recognized as real priceless work. Look, HRH works as an entertainer, who inspires so many people to work creatively, happily and freely for each other around the world. Can you simply call him just an entertainer? How about calling him The Legend.

Taking this as New Year's Meditation? So be it!

I've known HRH since 2004. Up until now, not a day I am not asking myself How? why? When? What? Who? Whence? Which? Basically, what exactly happened that I became a "fan" of his, the name "fan" that I had never imagined that I could be associated with in my entire life. I DID NOT have an idol and I admired nobody! That was essentially the old proud me. But since when I fell from the high above mountain flat down to the ground and then back up to the cloud nine? Was it the Hotelier, the Winter Sonata, the Have We Really Loved, or the Untold Scandal, or the First Love??? Hard to tell, still up to today, still, it's hard to tell which one is my most favorite, they all are.

Or was it that he was so handsome? But I vividly remember that after I watched the Hotelier in 2004, the very first South Korean drama I had ever watched in my life, I commented to hubby that this Frank Shin guy, although bearing a comfortable ordinary look, his clear-mind, determination and straightforward personality is quite outstanding and charming. Even at that time, I watched this drama twice, and believe it or not, I did not know the actor's name. I, being the ascent-minded drama watcher, never paid attention to the actor's name, only buried my mind in the stories and the characters.

Then someday somehow I mentioned to a friend's husband on the phone that I liked this Korean drama Hotelier, which is out of my expectation a quite fun, modern, bright Korean drama. So he said, "Oh, you like that famous actor Bae Yong-joon?"

I said "What? Who?"

"Ah, that glasses guy, he is very famous". The other end of the phone suggested, "We have his most successful drama Winter Sonata, wanna watch?".

"Well, only if it is funny and happy", I requested, "Did anyone get sick or die?"

"Hmmm... no one got broken legs or arms and so on", he replied, "but he got blinded".

"Forget it! Don't want to watch any sad drama like that! NOT my dish!" That's my verdict to Winter Sonata.

But somehow, I could not resist on checking this newly heard name Bae Yong-joon on the web. There I started my yet another "first time record" - surfing and reading about someone, something that is not work related. From then on, I could never stop.

The first bae-site I found was baidu.com BYJ Forum, there I found so many people talking about Winter Sonata. Clicking on some of the WLS pictures, and I saw two extremely ordinarily looking couple, nowadays I know they are Jun-sang and Yu-jin. Later on I found out a secret of BYJ - you got to watch him 3+ times to appreciate his beauty, the more you watch, the more you can discover about his beauty, the more you are addicted to him. After watching him 3 times, he magically transformed from being ordinarily looking into stunningly handsome. It's a mystery!

Well back then, before I found his beauty, 'twas only when I started reading about fans comments on the WLS stories, did I get attracted to this drama. After a few days of reading the Bae fans writings, I called up the friend who offered me the Winter Sonata, and begged "Can I borrow it, please?"

Then I read about "Have We Really Loved?". The brief description of each episode already got me hooked to this story. First time ever, I purchased the DVD HWRL, together with WLS and Hotelier. Before this, I had never ever spent a cent on DVDs - not worth the money and time, they are just the temporary pleasures that pass with time. But HRH's works are different, I know the value of owning them, they are absolutely great deals - I got to watch them countless times and obtained so much pleasure and joy.

In one way or another, I concluded that it was not his look that attracted me first, I largely believe that it was his fans who allured me into this bae-world, which he called "family" (Another concept that struck me).

Yesterday this proved my theory once more - I "accidentally" googled on "Bae Yong-joon", and found this article from Fillip - http://www.nst.com.my/blogs/fillips/191. Thought this was not a new discovery. I recalled that I reposted Fillip's posting about Winter Sonata in my blog before. Also vaguely remembered that Yokee or someone mentioned about this posting of Fillip's with the accounts of Bae Yong-joon. The information in this posting is completely familiar to me. The most fun part of reading this article lies in the reading of its reader's comments. Here are some of them that I found most amusing, some made me giggle and some made my heart burns.

TWSSG vs Hotelier

There was a funny feeling when I watched the TWSSG episode 24. Some of the dialogues reminded me of Hotelier. They are almost like coming out of the same scriptwriter. Wonder if Song Jina is a Hotelier fan, or most of the Korean drama scriptwriters are thinking on the same line? Or another wild thought, did PD Kim or BYJ instrumented these dialogues, borrowing the ideas from the Hotelier?

If you don't come with me, then I'll go over to you ...

Damdeok : If you don't want to come with me, then I will go over to you.

Frank Shin : If you cannot come with me, then, I have to go over to you.

You are my palace/hotel...

Damdeok: From now on, wherever you are is my palace.

Damdeok kicked the travelling cart broken so that it could not move again, in order to stop Sujini from running away to avoid him.

Frank Shin kicked the hotel service cart away so that he could block Jinyin from running away, in order that she could listen to his explanation.

Mind being on Hotelier, then I recalled this hand grabbing scene from Episode 8 in TWSSG being similar to the scene in Hotelier when they met at the Casablanca ...

This is the cause of me start watching the Hotelier all over again. Such an entertaining, inspiring, handsome drama, HRH being the handsome part. He was sooo cool as a Frank Shin. I think he looked the best in that Silver shirt with the silver tie. Again, no one in history can be as handsome as HRHHH being a shrewd Harvard graduated "hunter" businessman. Such a God given actor.

The Sexiest HRH in TWSSG

It has become a trend that more and more movies and dramas are stuffing in more unnecessary violence or sex scenes, in order to boost up the box office or viewership. Gradually people are used to it and welcoming it and even expecting it more and more. Interesting enough, the TWSSG achieved much success without having to resort to any of those. Well can't disagree that there were some violent scenes, but this is a war theme, it is justifiable that those fighting and killing scenes are necessary and not overdone. Nevertheless, today I am talking about the scenes that are related to sexiness. The "statistics" showed that there was only one kissing scene in the entire drama, and that was not even "accomplished".

TWSSG proved that a good piece of work does not need to rely on the arousing scenes like kissing or bed-scenes, etc. Rather it is well received as exceptionally entertaining in terms of successfully stimulated viewer's senses AND mind. Good storyline, rich character development, proficient acting from almost all actors/actresses, extraordinary CG and sound effect, beautiful music, and especially the irreplaceable charming absorbing king BYJ, all are the keys to success. Of course we have to be thankful for BYJ's perfecting subtle performing skills. Even though there was no bed-scenes, the very existence of BYJ is sexy enough. So when I read somewhere about the "bed-scene" of TWSSG, I was quite curious and amused. Are people so craving for the sex scenes? Lo, and behold, they were talking about tis one :

Come on! Give me a break! I don't even see a bed! Don't even mention that this whole 20-second scene was made up of a contiguous shooting of the above still picture. I would rather call this the "still sleeping scene", quite straightforward, eh?

Is this closer to a "bed-scene"? At least HRH is on the bed, this very combination is already arousing, ya?

Although there were hugging and panting involved, it is pretty clear to me that this still does not qualify for a bed-scene. I'd rather call it a "nightmare comforting scene".

Looking for a sexy HRH in TWSSG? It's got to be tough if you only look for the obvious like a bed-scene. It's easy to show a brave Taewang, a heroic Taewang, a merciful Taewang, a diplomatic Taewang, a visionary Taewang, an emotional Taewang ... but a sexy Taewang, nm-nm, don't think the scriptwriter or the director had the particular intention for showing a sexy Taewang.

But again, who is BYJ? The very existence of BYJ is sexiness. Heehee... this is NOT an over-statement!

Now you are trying to decide in which scenes he was sexy? How about this?

mmm... this one I can stare for the longest time! Remember I love love love this man with eyes closed and chins up. Apparently his self-awareness did not fail him. He showed many of these mesmerizing chins-up-eyes-closed scenes in this drama, with clear intention to struck us down, but he did it so naturally.

Hmmm... I would call this the "wine-teasing scene". HRH was rather playful and naughty then sexy. Although this "O-Ho" scene was pretty fatherly and a tad sexy. I love it!

This "O-Ho" expression is brand new to me, I believe this is the very first time he used this new mass destruction bomb to us. I am completely blown down flat by his "O-Ho".

But desiring more than a fatherly "O-Ho"? Yeah, in my mind, there is a more sexy one. Thinking of this one?

Well, I can only call this "fuzzy flirting scene". Would HRH flirt like this in the real life? Damdeok looked playful and uncertain about his feelings to Sujini. After all, he is only a king of 20ish in age. A king with great mind but in a unsettled young age, not sure enough for a relationship yet? Mind still on Kiha?

We are getting closer to find the sexiest HRH if we look at this episode, when Sujini bid farewell to the HRH king, but keeping our king in the complete blue.

I do feel happy being served by a pretty girl like you, Sujini, though I am so used to you, but today you look different, do a better job this time, okay?

And this is the excuse that I grabbed your hand, I felt an impulse to hold your elegant gentle hand - "why are you so quiet? Tell me, you must have made some trouble?"

Hey, these arms are sexy. Crazy thought!

Hey Hey, Sujini's hands are beautiful. Those long fingers ... lucky enough to hold HRH's waist!

I call this "Out-of-the-blue no-clue puzzling scene". Poor Damdeok, only Sujini dares to treat our king like this!

Here we are! I can not describe why I think the next episode showed the sexiest look of HRH in this drama. Can't describe. Pictures worth a thousand words. Here savor on them.

My Favorite Damdeok Wrath Scenes

Thought of writing down something over the weekend but time just passed with all kinds of "necessary" work at home, but not much seemed to be accomplished. Since woke up a bit early than usual, thought might be good to transfer some of my mind on TWSSG to this post.
Thank goodness for HRH to give us so many of his gracious precious appearances in a reasonably long drama. TWSSG presented so many of his looks and gestures and voices for us to study for the rest of the years before he gives us another new work.

Remember I was longing for his serious looks? I love love love his smiles, but I also missed his serious looks, since I believe when he is not smiling, he looks more manly. And when he is showing his anger, he looks more sexy.

There are about 5 places in this drama I can remember his outbursts. If I watched the drama a tad more times, I may find out more of Damdeok exploded in anger. So far I remembered 5 and the first 3 of these 5 wraths are my favorites.

1. Damdeok visited his father's tomb, learned from High Priestess that Kiha was the one who killed his father. He trusted Kiha so much, but High Priestess who has cared for him like a mother, and her witness prove to him that Kiha indeed was the "murderer", imagine how disappointed, angry he would be to Kiha and to himself! This was the first time Damdeok burst out in wrath. His angry roar was soooo soooo sexy. The action of throwing the sword and hit the marble pillar was mighty powerful.

2. Damdeok Taewang came back to the royal city in victory, but had to meet Kiha the new High Priestess in the Temple alone. The conversation between the two ex-lovers was a total disaster. The misunderstandings caused both to suppress their heartbreaking emotions and memories in the past, rather the words they spoke out to each other were quite hurting. The relationship was ended, Damdeok decided. At that moment, without a voice, the young king's suffocated fury was exploded by swinging his sword splitting off the golden string. No one can play this scene better than HRH. Now you got a taste of how he would look like when you break his heart. So don't do that!

3. In Episode 17, the ministers were surprised that Taewang treated them like loyal subordinates even after they were trying to kill him in the past. One of the ministers, seeing Taewang giving away the sacred symbols to the Hwachuan Leader, hoping to exchange for the minister's lives, he remorsed on his disloyal to the king and killed himself in front of Taewang. While Damdeok and everyone else were in shock, the second minister followed up, trying to do the same thing, in order not to burden the king with their unworthy lives. Taewang could not stand this any more, he burst out a mighty "NO!!! WAIT" and charge to the evil Hwachuan Leader! Wow, how much do I wish I could post the video clip of this raging outbreak, HRH's mighty roar was soooo MANLY!

4. Angry with General Gao for blocking him to rescue the two "dummies" Juno leader and Joomichi.

5. Angry with Gomul village folk not knowing where Sujini disappeared herself.

Er Er, I feel like I am this Gomul disciple - hold on, hold on your Highness, you are getting too emotional for this girl Sujini, sorry we did not know you want her so much! Easy, Easy! So HRH, we hope you'll find your sweetheart and never loose her.

Guess what, after screen captured and reviewed these raging HRH pictures, I really really really really miss his smiles. At this moment, my mind is locked on this cute picture of the young Damdeok on the palace wall with a smile that is such a rich charming mixture of childish, shy, mischievous, pure and more ...

HRH is such a sunshine! Do you like this smile better or Mona Lisa's? Tough question, eh? Being a simpleton, I answered without a blink, HRH's smile always makes me smile, of course I like this lively one better! I vote this the best smile of Damdeok in TWSSG.

Impressions of MBC Award Ceremony

Finally watched the 2007 MBC Drama Award Ceremony, of course I watched it just for BYJ. Got some random thoughts:

1. BYJ is the most dazzling man dropped from heaven into the crowd, wondering if the heaven is fair at all. No wonder there are so many people jealous about him. I started to feel that, how come every good thing falls on this one man, handsome, tall, elegant, bright, shrewd, diplomatic, humorous, humble yet dignified, gentle yet strong, Y, Y, Y, it's not fair!!! (pfff...)

2. As HRH advised Phillip Lee - working in entertainment biz world is a very hard job. You have to be patient to let people flash shots on your body, you have to maintain a good smile all the time, ever mindful that there is a camera focusing on you, you have to answer all kinds of questions, some are quite annoying, like "when are you going to get married". why? And worst of all, IMHO, as an actor you have to do some scenes you dislike, and you are made to believe that these scenes are necessary to the project. You have to kiss whoever you are supposed to be kissing, and you have to hug whoever you are told to hug. You have to tolerate people to "inquire" your body parts and have fun with them. But since this is your choice of caree, we know you are strong yong joon ssi, hang in there, I'd be glad to cheer for you and support you for whatever you decide to do.

3. Why was there not the music award? The TWSSG musics are so beautiful. Joe Hisaishi deserves the music award.

4. Where was Song Jina, despite the rumors and controversies, I respect her ability as a scriptwriter. Was there an award for scriptwriter?

5. Masters of 3 sacred symbols accompanied the king at the ceremony, where was Joomuchi? Cheoro (Phillip Lee) was the most helpful, almost like in the drama, he is always around to assist our king.

6. EJA did not show too much smiling that night, was she too serious, or too nervous, or just not in a party mood? It is so obvious that she is a smart girl, may be too smart, remember men are usually scared by the smart girl like what she appeared to be. Well BYJ is smarter to hire EJA in BOF.

7. BYJ's smile can brighten and soften so many women's heart. Yet sometimes when he is serious, I would imagine some girls would be afraid of him. His power is ever growing, he seemed to be very strict about what and how things should be done, appears to be a very demanding boss. It is obvious that he is not someone who can be easily accessed if he decides so. Was EJA afraid of him? He seems to set up an invisible wall around him to certain actresses whom he worked with. EJA, SYA, JDY, are you one of them?

8. I expected the MBC Drama Award Ceremony to be a bit more entertaining than just handing out trophies one after another.

9. Damdeok was handsome in TWSSG, but BYJ is more handsome and charming at the award ceremony. He appeared to be much younger, what did his mother feed him at home? How did he maintain his beauty and youth at the age of 35, he looks at least 10 years younger.

10. Phillip Lee seems to be a nice young man, wish one day he gets some awards, work hard young fella.

11. I do not like entertainment world. I would never be interested in working in it or to watch any award ceremony of such kind. I would never spend a second on any voting polls of such kind. But just for you BYJ, just for you my pal. I did my contribution of clicking the buttons whereever your picture appears. I am happy for your achievement. You deserve it!

Thoughts about BYJ the Biz Man

A regular "anonymous" made an interesting comment in my previous post "TWSSG Grading". (BTW, I think my grading was too critical if not harsh). Sometimes I am feeling funny about the word "fan". The definition of this word from my web search is " An ardent devotee; an enthusiast". You can easily see the normal BYJ fans, they devote their passions to support this guy they love. But do realize that there is another type of "BYJ fans", they devote their energies and emotions against BYJ and his "pro" fans, so they are called anti-BYJ fans. Admit it or not they are still BYJ fans because they spend so much time on him and even on his fans, the only sadness is that they are applying their energies against themselves - being so unhappy and insecure.

I happen to be a venting point of a certain anti-BYJ "fan". I don't see this as being a bad thing. The arguments are brought up to keep us thinking more about what we do here, they are actually quite normal points of a typical anti-BYJ fan. We can discuss the issues as long as we are conducting it in a constructive way. Here is my reply on her comments:

Hi "anonymous", with the New Year's Day break, I've got more time to think about your comments. If I read you correctly, I think you have two major issues with BYJ - One is that he is not good enough for you to be his fan and to many other people. Second is, he is not as "nice" as what the fans thought him to be, he is just a businessman, and you are feeling sick seeing him making so much money through his popularity.

My thoughts are, first, do not look for a perfect man on this earth. We call him "angel" but we are mature intelligent women who know clearly that he is not perfect, but the ways he tries so hard to be perfect and the ways he tries so hard to meet our expectations are showing his angelic quality. We love the virtues exhibited through him, that's the key! Hope you can see it. But there are so many good men with these virtues, why just BYJ? well, why did I fall in love and marry my husband? dunno, it just clicked. So here is the same case, it just happened he shot our hearts.

Second about BYJ being a businessman. This is a well-known fact, he is not only a businessman, but an excellent, successful businessman. He deserves the money he made through his prudent planning, self-management and hard work. And we fans just want to do business with him. The reasons? I decide what I want to spend money on and whom I want to do business with - to the ones I value and the ones I want to support. For any businessman, I look at the ways they used to get successful and what they do with their fortune at hand. BYJ matched my criteria, and I believe this is the same case to his many fans throughout the world. Noticed he got over 1 millions votes for MBC Most Popular Actor Award? Over 1 millions vote! well no one can beat this "painful" fact - he is not only rich with money, but also rich in owning all these fans hearts. It's very easy to provoke jealousy within certain people. I hope you recover soon from feeling sick about this, it ain't happy nor healthy!

A Wise Hubby Who Can Tell What is Good

Hubby has been a fervent soccer player. If he is not at work, or not on biz trip, you'll find him on the soccer field, either chasing a ball like a maniac, or coaching my sons and their teams.

Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately), he had to wear a cast on his right foot for suffering from Achilles tendonitis caused by overpronation during extensive soccer playing. Now he has been banned from running or over-walking, prescribed casting for 2-4 weeks. All these happened in the same while he is not too busy with work and biz trips, so he has all his time to spare on me and kids.

By the way he decided to wear that cast for 4 weeks but I warned him ahead that he should be careful about his left foot being exerted due to un-balanced from wearing the cast on his right foot, as a 180cm 80kg big man, all his weight would be supported by that poor left foot now. And not surprisingly, after 2 weeks, I saw his cast being abandoned on the floor, guess what, he started complaining his left foot in pain now. So yong joon ssi, is it that your left knee got hurt? thank goodness that you have crutches to help moving around, but still please be cautious on not exerting your right leg too much, Okay? I don't want to see you having side-effect pains on the good leg after we took care of the injured one. Is that character Jaime and her clan doing a good job massaging your legs? I perform my good duty to my hubby's ankle, just to let you know how convenient to have your own wife.

All right, so hubby has quite a relaxing schedule towards the end of the year, other than doing all the chores such as fixing up the house, paying the bills, plowing the snow, watching soccer games on youtube, creating tricksy bewildering math problems for both kids, he unwillingly started watching the TWSSG with me as a token of "spending quality time with the wife". Heehee.. quality time for ME hehe ... As you know he is quite jealous about HRH sinking down many of the talented innocent women like his wife and her college friends ... so I am wise enough not to make any comments about that man Damdeok as long as he enjoys the story. I am convinced that this is a piece of work appealing to male just as much or even more than to the female viewers. It was the FIRST TIME that hubby could watch a drama/movie of any kind till 3am with me EVER in my life! He could not stop, and I did not try to stop him until that disk was done, we watched 4 episodes that night! I am curious if the DVD disk could hold all 24 episodes, when would he recollect his consciousness and stop watching.

We stopped at the high point of episode 15, when Damdeok visited Baeji alone for Sujini and obtained the Blue Dragon Sacred Symble. Such a dramatic exciting episode, full of paradisaical scenes and enchanting music, with heavenly Damdeok wondering about. This is one of my most favorite episodes.

At this point, hubby admitted that the Korean actors have better acting skills than most of the Chinese actors he knew. (What he meant Korean actors included BYJ I am sure?) And, he commented, the Koreans (at least in the dramas) are all so very courteous, respectful, well mannered. (Including wuri HRH, right? Not that I only care about HRH, but I do care only about HRH.) I thought it is quite significant and pleasing to hear hubby praising the Korean people and the Korean drama TWSSG 'coz for me anything Korean is related to HRHHHHHH. See even the most proud and critical soul like hubby has the wisdom to tell and acknowledge what is truly good, of course including wuri HRHxN.

A happy thought for the New Year's Eve. (Son asked me why don't we call it New Year's Adam?)

An "Unbiased" TWSSG Review

Accidentally found a terrific review of TWSSG from a person who did not like BYJ before, whose blog name is "daphnehsiao's home" (The Chinese name is 小柳閣). I copied it down here, but sorry to the English only readers, don't know if this is translated anywhere, not sure if I will have time and capability to translate it well, the summary of her review is she turned from disliking BYJ into a convinced BYJ "appreciator" because of HRH's acting and image in TWSSG. She also praised the TWSSG as a whole in terms of all of the actors/actresses, the music, the shooting techniques, the script plot, the developing of the story and characters, except the episode 24, the controversial one. Understandable!

太王四神記心得

我不是學電影戲劇或是攝影的，所以如果有任何名詞使用錯誤，請原諒^^

在看太王四神記之前，我對裴勇俊並沒有好感，甚至可以說是有一點點隱性的反感。之前沒有看過勇樣的任何連續劇作品，但是冬季戀歌裡的勇樣形象實在被過度的推銷，連續轟炸的結果就是讓我心生厭煩。唯一一次看過的裴勇俊作品就是醜聞這部電影(為了看另一位演員趙顯宰的演出)。但是好死不死讓我租到無法顯示字幕的DVD(也許那片DVD和我的電腦跟DVD player八字不合吧)，我的韓語聽力又比幼稚園還不如，所以也就只是跳著跳著尋找趙顯宰的蹤跡，對裴勇俊在這部片裡的印象也只有他油油的感覺(是因為演個花花公子吧，所以油腔滑調顯現在表情肢體和語調中了)。

這次會看太王四神記，起因是好奇，還有最近才養成的韓劇胃口。加上中視第一集開始雙語播出，而我又是個狂熱的原聲愛好者，另外還衝著神話奇幻風格和電腦動畫，2007年12月14日星期五晚上八點，我打開了電視。

第一集裡鋪陳的是太王四神記的背景神話，我有的感覺只是音樂還不錯，動畫做得不錯，另外女主角之一的李智雅演的賽澳(棲梧)很美(看起來很像韓國電玩裡開場或過場動畫會出現的女神啊)。對於裴勇俊的桓雄，我只覺得身為一個天神之子，要不要這麼軟弱的感覺啊。所有演員的對白不多，時間上也不是連續的，所以真的難以看出些什麼更深層的感覺。不過現在回想起來，這倒是很符合兩千年前輾轉流傳下來的神話所必然有的破碎和片段情形。可是那時對劇情的整體感覺卻只是很 KUSO，感覺到韓國人天性裡的自high，所以我笑著推薦給朋友，說可以看開心。

第一集看完了，感覺有點空虛，要看第二集必須再等一個禮拜。原本打算乖乖等電視播出，想說再給太王四神記一點機會，如果再看個一兩集還是沒有什麼地方能吸住我的眼，就放掉這部韓劇。但是等一等覺得厭煩了，便去找了第二第三集想說快快決定要不要繼續看。但是第二集開始小演員們開始發威，我發現了飾演談德幼年的那位小演員很眼熟，想了想，原來他就是演出韓版情書裡幼年的趙顯宰的那個孩子。事隔數年，長大了不少，演技也更是出色。出色的樣貌已經可以預見未來會是個帥哥(雖然還是小眼睛一族)。第三集開始，劇情有了發展，角色之間的互動和情感走向開始展現在觀眾眼前，所有的故事開始立體了起來。

第三集的結尾實在是充滿了張力，急急忙忙的接下去看。第四集中童年戲結束，小談德騎馬騎著騎著就變成了裴勇俊，成年角色們豋場。裴勇俊騎馬騎一騎還在馬背上張開雙臂做出飛揚之姿，當時還沒被裴勇俊迷住的我心中唯一的感想是：喔，這樣啊？成年的昊凱豋場，我的感想是他變帥了。秀芝妮則是眼睛變小但變美了。棋霞最囧，從清秀美少女變成了大嬸。秀芝妮長大後不像小時候機靈的樣子，被人滿街追打。談德的氣質不再像小時候的純正柔和，變得如楊過一般浪蕩不羈，不過表面上卻沒有楊過的專情，可說是個花中好手(可能是在市井裡混久的結果吧)。不過看到大談德和父親之間的互動真是好玩，談德一付老鼠遇到貓的樣子。文素利演的棋霞讓我越看越不耐煩，因為她的樣貌在我眼中實在不適合這個角色(跟小時候差太多了啦XD)。

漸漸的，談德的楊過氣質吸引了我，演員間的互動愈見細膩，可以看到編劇的功力。我便決定了要把太王四神記看完。誰知越看，就越被裴勇俊吸引。以前我覺得這個人一點都不帥，甚至看起來有點怪，為什麼所有他的影迷會認為他帥得飛天遁地？但是看他演戲，我被吸了進去，只能說越看越帥。以前完全不欣賞的面孔，如今變成了我眼中的大帥哥。也許是因為結合了他的演技和個人特質，展現了獨特的樣貌吧。之前的另一個例子就是木村拓哉。原本我也是覺得這個人長得也不過就是不醜，比他帥的演員很多。但是看了他演的戲，卻越看越帥。他們這些演員彷彿成了一個典型：在演技中綻放的明星。自此我知道，我沒辦法不把這齣韓劇看完了。

當然單是衝著裴勇俊是不夠的，其他所有演員的出色表現，讓我真的要說這齣戲裡沒有一個爛演員，也沒有一個單調的演員。編劇十分細膩，角色間的情緒情感互動張力十足。久石讓的配樂雖然和平常慣聽的他的風格不似，卻時而澎湃激昂，時而低迴纏綿。導演的運鏡手法和一般韓劇完全不同，是更類似電影的方式。所以我雖然先看了朱蒙，也認為朱蒙很好看，但是朱蒙還是有些地方讓我想快轉。太王四神記的處理方式卻是非常的綿密，讓我無法錯過任何一個部份(最後一集的戰鬥除外)。如果用湯來比較，朱蒙是一碗頂級新竹貢丸湯，精華的貢丸十足美味，但是吃完貢丸，湯只會喝幾口來潤潤喉。太王四神記卻是精燉的佛跳牆，不只料好美味，每一滴甘醇的鮮湯也不容人錯過，值得細細品味，再三回味。

這碗美味的佛跳牆，和其他韓國歷史劇不同的地方在於，從頭到尾沒有一個場景給我棚內戲的感覺。因為幾乎全部是在影城實景或外景拍攝，大部分場景都能夠有三百六十度的視角。會議時，不再是所有人圍著一張桌子的三面，第四面留給攝影機。房間都有窗戶，攝影機能照到窗外景色或是從窗外照進房間。這讓許多畫面都有景深，也許有些窗外風景是CG，但是我相信大部分都是實景的效果。這讓這部戲更顯真實，也更能帶出壯闊的感覺。擁有景深這一點，也是大部分的韓劇很少做到的，這讓太王四神記更像都在影城實景拍攝的中國大陸歷史劇。

另外很重要的就是光線的運用。這部戲裡面沒有一根蠟燭就讓密閉的室內亮得像白天這種莫名奇妙情形出現。和現實相似的，黑夜中，點燃許多燭火仍然昏暗，白天的室內要亮，就要靠透過窗戶的日光。當然還是有非現實的光線畫面。像是火天會的場景裡莫名奇妙的紅光和四神神物散發的光芒。但是這些屬於奇幻的範疇，怎樣的天馬行空都不會給人違和感。重視景深，重視光線，這些都顯示出了這部戲的電影規格。

順帶一提小小的一點，那就是血。跟其他我看過的各國歷史連續劇相比，太王四神記的血噴得算是很逼真的。真的有動脈噴血的模式出來呢。這在我心中又是大大的加分。

雖然有人可能會為四神是中國的神，卻被韓國人據為己有而不快。另外劇中的歷史也和現實有所不符。但是如果當做這只是創作，不帶成見的來看(乾脆當做平行宇宙看待更容易)。也有人會說結局太爛，但是只要運用阿Q的精神勝利法，參考板上的美化結局，倒也是可以為自己編出美好的結局。

總而言之太王四神記裡木村型的勇樣、有景深的畫面，自然運用的光線、當然還有其他演技出色的演員、(23集以前)細膩的編劇，更別提精緻的道具、出色的配樂，綜合以上的要素，造就了太王四神記讓人不得不看的理由。

TWSSG Grading

One by one, they fell to it. After sons, hubby has been hooked to TWSSG now. With not much traveling in the past couple of months, he started with me watching TWSSG together, at a couple of episodes per week. Yes, patience is a virtue. The fun will last longer with this exemplified "moderate" pace, won't it? Especially from our bed, watching HRHHH (His Royal Handsomeness Hotness Highness) Damdeok on the 42" Plasma HDTV, a Christmas gift from hubby. And THANK YOU also to a special bae-sister who sent me the TWSSG DVD. Boy what a treat of watching HRHHH Damdeok on a bigger screen, I could even count his hairs. The last thing I need is to feel his breath! I am so grateful to my loving family and bae sisters.

We started out with the downloaded version, viewing on my laptop. He was wondering how I managed to download the whole drama, even with translations. I explained in a matter-of-fact manner, there is a world out there, that is beyond belief. There are fans (I did not want to use any adjectives to describe how kind and generous and talented these fans are, I just want to state the fact to hubby), yes there are a lot of fans out there, who freely, timely uploaded the original episode right after its broadcasting, then there are other fans translated them into English, in text and in subtitles, Chinese translated text, then Simplified and traditional subs, Korean subs, I wonder if there are Japanese subs as well, and there are fans to inform the isolated, forgettable person like me for the links and share with me the ways to download. Hubby did not comment anything. Hmmm... OKay, let's watch it.

After a few episodes of viewing, hubby sighed with satisfaction - "It's good to watch the Han-drama (that's what he calls all my Bae-dramas) with no cost, it's FREE! So good!".

I replied immediately - "Well, if the world is full of your kind of people (yes, we always tease each other like this) who only wants the good stuff FREELY, without thinking of giving back. Eventually there will be no good stuff any more in this world!"

After exactly two seconds, hubby calmly, joyfully claimed, "I fully support you and your circle of friends (this is how he calls my bae-sisters), keep doing it this way, so you can kill Hanllyu!". Now I see his evil grin. (Obviously, hubby would join the BYJ assassination team if he finds one, he finally found the best way to get rid of him.)

So my friends, if you want to keep our HRH alive, support him by purchasing his official TWSSG release when it comes out.

BUT, to be fair to BYJ, I don't think he would make it an obligation to his fans to support him financially, rather the immense love of his fans to him is the source of his strength, and it can come in many different ways.

After viewing almost half way through (in the preview, Damdeok was going to be tested with the sacred sword), yesterday hubby solemnly asked me this question with a testing voice "now that after you have viewed so many han-dramas (I know they are actually bae-dramas, but I won't correct him on this one), how do you grade TWSSG among your han-dramas?"

I've already got my answer "If rating based on which one is the most beautiful, most pleasing to my heart, most touching with comforting fancy memories, it is the Winter Sonata. If rating based on viewing rate in Korean history, it is the First Love. If rating based on styles, Hotelier is one of a kind, different from most of Hanllyu melodramas, it's modern, professional, fast paced, funny, no cancer/sickness/disease/crying too much, Shin Donghyuk, one of a kind businessman, mmmm... Shin Donghyuk (don't want to say more, haha...). If rating by seriousness, HWRL. These are my most favorites. As for TWSSG, my rating for its storyline is 7 out of 10.". (Pretty happy with my diplomatic approach for his touchy question, remember not to show any favor and emotion to certain GUY in these dramas.)

So HRH has not cut his hair yet! It's another rumor, interesting these rumors keep coming up once every other week, easy to tell bae fans are anxious to see his new looks and they have voted for their favorite hair styles - Donghyuk. Well I am glad that he has not cut his hair yet, I would feel so sorry to see those beautiful silky strong hairs got cut off. If he decides to cut them off in the future, at least I wish he keeps them in a safebox, I am sure if he donates those hairs, or put it to auction, part of the proceeds can be used for charity. Or how about distribute those precious hairs to each of his fans, I'd be glad to have one strand if I can afford, haha... and feeling good if the money can help someone ...

Saw this post from soompi, from a non-BYJ fan named "phreaque", she shared how she felt about HRH's donation (wonder if she knows we call him HRH and its meaning) and how she felt about HRH as a celebrity, and just as important, how she felt about us - HRH fans. It really pleases my heart to see a non-BYJ (implied non-biased view??) giving kudos to him. Bravo!

hi guys ^^

i'm not a fan of BYJ, neither have i watched any of his movies or drama, but after i read about how he is donating equipment to help clean-up the oil spill in S.Korea, i was impressed by his thoughtfulness. Most celebrities who donate usually give money, but his consideration for the volunteers and his attention to detail really left a deep and positive impression.

i have just finished reading the translation, and i'm really impressed by the love you guys have for him (and vice versa). the quality of the translation is remarkable! i've heard people saying BYJ fans are one of the kindest, gentlest and more intelligent people around on the internet, but i was always dubious. ^^ i'm convinced now.

again, the little acts that he displays really emphasised his sensitivity and attention to his surrounding. i really like that about him.

maybe i should start hunting for some dramas of his, any recommendations? ^^

TWSSG - Ideal vs Reality

TWSSG is by all means a grand work. It is made with nice combination of myths and historical facts. It is also an exemplified combination of ideal and reality. One needs to hold a balanced attitude to deal with the ideal and reality.

Ideally as director Kim planned, the drama would only be aired after the shootings are completed. The reality is, the script was modified and delayed, accidents and injuries happened to the director and main actors, the script was not available to the actors/actresses a week before the shooting for the ending episode, and the last episode shooting was completed only 3 days before it was aired.

Ideally HRH will complete his Taewang project safely. In reality, he got injured with broken finger, neck injury, knee injury.

Ideally the drama will be produced with meticulous quality since both the director and the main actor BYJ are perfectionists. The reality is, both of them got severely injured, the last episode broadcasted had a feeling of being rushed. Here is a snapshot of Kiha in the air. She was supposed to be on fire, but at this shot, the fire was diminished, leaving the safty wire shown too obviously. I hope this is corrected in the final version going out to the world.

Ideally Damdeok should learn from Kiha or Hogae (the only two who knew the truth) that Kiha did not kill his father. That would make more sense when Damdeok apologize to Kiha for not trusting her. The reality is, the viewer has to lean on one’s own imagination to connect the dot. Who told him and how and what was his reaction, this is an important section not to be omitted. I hope there is an updated version with this part added.

I like the way Damdeok forgave Kiha. After all she was his first love, and his son’s mother. It makes sense that he would forgive her especially after he learned that she did not murder his father. But what about his love to Sujini? Ideally, after he broke the heaven’s bow, before he turned around and going towards the glowing megalith, Damdeok would give more time to look at Sujini and his son with more passion and affection, even a hug would be better. In reality, he only passed her a glimpse, director Kim, I think only 3 more seconds will do the justice to her years of loyalty and love to the king and his son.

Ideally all four gods’ symbols would wake up for the sake of the Jyooshin king’s life. In reality, the long awaited Joojak did not get time to wake up to save the king’s life. According to the scriptwriter, the four scared symbols not only have the roles of assisting the Jyooshin King, but also represent the four essential qualities that a great king should possess. Turtle Snake represents Wrath to darkness. Blue Dragon represents Mercy. White Tiger represents Pure Courage and Phoenix Heart represents Passionate Love. The first 3 sacred symbols woke up and saved Jyooshin king’s life in the corresponding crisis. It also demonstrated that Damdeok possessed the qualities of justice, mercy and courage. However, in order to become a real king, Damdeok must also acquire the ability to love. At the beginning of the episode 24, Damdeok revealed his passionate love to Sujini, at the end of this episode, Damdeok forgave Kiha, these are all proof that he has completed his trial as a real Jyooshin King. The only regret was the scence of Joojak waking up was not shown to complete the Jyooshin King and Four Gods journey. This may become a biggest regret of this drama for rushing at the ending, and it may be difficult fix to the current cut.

Ideally I would like to see Julno elder Heukgae died from a more glorious cause, rather than falling off the horse and killed by a regular Hwachuan nimja. Ideally I wish General Kao did not get killed either. In reality, the current ending lead me to think that Heukgae was too old to fight this fierce war, that he fell off the horse caused by fatigue, killed by “nimja”, m dear poor Heukgae, he is so adorable. As for General Kao, I guess he has to die before Damdeok to fulfill the conversation between the two in episode 14. In there Damdeok promised General Kao that he would not die before the general, in order that the general can fulfill his promise to the late king to protect the life of Damdeok. So here goes our beloved General Kao.

Ideally even if all the four symbols were destroyed, none of the four guardians lost their lives, neither did Taewang die at the breaking of the heaven’s bow. After all these years of fellowship, loyalty and fighting for the king between life and death, they don't deserve to die just because the symbols were destroyed. In reality, the ending did an excellent job of making it ambiguous, only if in the previous episode, it was not explained too clearly that the guardians and the king himself would die at the breaking of the heaven’s bow. And if between the scenes of Taewang entering the glowing megalith and the scene of real life Taewang’s monument, it would be ideal to show the green sacred tree symbolizing peace is back on earth, after years of war. This will also dismiss the interpretation that Taewang died at that moment of merging into the megalith and the megalith turned into a grave stone.

Ideally more clips of ordinary people, (may or may not including the ex-guardians of the four symbols), living a peaceful life in the city or on a green pasture, be shown during the narrator announcing the chronological achievements of Taewang. In reality? A few clips of quiet city and pasture were shown to suit the intention but can be more lively with showing some of our familiar faces such as Dalbe’s twins playing with Joomuchi and that street performer telling glorious stories of Taewang to the folks on the street.

Read in TWSSG special 2, YJ said TWSSG was a great work with a few discontents. This is exactly the reflection of the ideal and the reality. I would say YJ ssi and the TWSSG crew, you did a fantastic job, especially under unexpected difficult conditions. There may be dissatisfactions to this grand project, but this is the nature of the reality. I am all satisfied to see that you achieved your goal with determination and your health is recovering day by day. Cheers!

Beware with the Ordering

Being well trained in the Chinese strategic board game “Go”, I should have known by heart that executing the proper ordering of steps is extremely important to succeed a strategy. Heaven knows what a dumb I turned into when I am dealing with fictions and dramas, especially long dramas. I would watch the first couple of episodes, then jump to the last couple for the ending, as if I have no patience to follow the storyline without first seeing the ending. Actually there is still a strategy in my use of time for entertainment - if the beginning and the ending do not appeal to me, that would be the end of the time I would spend for that drama. Not bad, eh?

This happened to the acclaimed drama “Sandglass”, the collaborated work of director Kim Jong Hak and scriptwriter Song Ji Na. I bought this drama for two reasons; first it was of course because of TWSSG. Why? Because it was also the collaborated work of director Kim and scriptwriter Song. I want to know their styles a bit better. Second it was because of the following introductions made by the yesasia.com …

Talking about the unforgettable ending of “Sandglass”, I did watch it with my usually “drama viewing strategy”, the last episode was truly unforgettable, extremely touching, but also disturbing to my point of view for life, I decided to put it aside until I REALLY have time to connect the dots between its beginning and ending. Friends, if you have watched “Sandglass”, feel free to discuss your views with me, I would be very interested.

Talking about ordering of steps, for Bae Yong Joon’s drama, I NEVER EVER jump to the end. I concluded that Bae dramas deserve all my spare time to savor, especially the scenes with him appearing. So what went wrong, my dear H, with TWSSG ending episode? It is obvious that I would not and could not jump to the ending since I followed the airing one episode after the next, no on knows the ending till the actual airing of episode 24. The problem is, I went to work during that day, I have to watch the downloaded episode typically a day behind the broadcasting day. The “ordering” went wrong this way – Wednesday Dec. 5^th, 2007, after a long day of work, I dragged my tiring body back home a bit earlier than normal working hour, hoping to cheer myself up with the happy ending of the last episode. The first minute when arriving home, I went straight to my laptop, directly navigate into my usual TWSSG link, immediately overwhelmed with complaints about the ending. What? Taewang died? All four gods died? What’s gonna happen with Jumoochi’s twins? What’s gonna happen to out lovely poor girl Sujini and the little prince? Why Lord Hwanwoong would kill his love Sae-oh, but Taewang Damdeok would not kill the evil Kiha? I saw people were angry, screaming, exploding. What? There was another version of the ending by the scriptwriter? What? The original ending was more peaceful and happier? Reading these comments and extra information, I got deeply depressed and unconsciously avoiding the watching of the last episode.

Two days later, with the releasing of the Chinese translation, I finally settled down my mind and started watching it, telling myself that I have to watch it with my own eyes and think with my own minds before I judge the situation. The outcome was, even though there were some pitfalls in the shooting and post processing, the ending is definitely a convincing, moving one. I like it. It can be made more beautiful and hopeful for a lasting entertaining memory, but it is satisfying in the way that it was cleverly made open-ended.

Lesson learned? Follow the right order, don’t jump ahead, don’t be influenced by others view, better yet, don’t read others comments until you watch it by yourself. You do not want to miss a great drama by judging the ending first. See that's how I missed the "Sandglass", except it is much more tolerable than missing the TWSSG. Only for once, I wished my internet connection was lost those couple of days so that I did not read about the ending before watching it for myself. But on the other thought, without internet connection, I would not be able to download this episode.

Anyway, these babbling is all about – I wish I did not read those comments and be depressed about the TWSSG before I watched it myself first! Over and above all, TWSSG is an exceptionally fantastic drama. Hail to the team and especially to our HRH!

Boy He Hides Deeply

Ah that's what it was! When I saw today's TWSSG Episode 24 10-minute Preview, I finally got it. OMG, the scriptwriter amazes me on this lead. Remember in Episode 16, when this member of the Gomul Village, who was also a loyal servant of the late King and also Damdeok, don't know his name, but here is his picture

So in episode 16, when he overheard Kiha and Hwuchwan elder's conspiracy about blocking Damdeok's army outside the royal city, he ran to send the message to Damdeok. But he did not escape Saryang's watchful eyes.

While he was preparing the horse to hit the road, he was caught by the Hwachwan "ninja".

But the story stopped right here, I knew he was in trouble with the Hwachwan people, but surprised to see he was all safe and sound when Damdeok came back.

He was with the king even till episode 23, appearing as a loyal servant. I have been wondering what's up with this small section of him being captured by Hwachwan ninja, either the scriptwriter's mind was going wild, or there WAS something she was preparing, but very very cunningly ...

So the episode 24 preview gave me an answer - Aha! he was one of those "marked" spy of Hwachwan since episode 16, good thing he did not do much damage untill now.

But Hwachwan elder knows the best time to use his deepest spy. He made him stole Damdeok's son!

Oh boy, oh boy, scriptwriter Song Jina, you are very creative. I admire.

You can take my comment either way, serious or sarcasm, but I am actually pretty serious, this "spy" was indeed hiding too early and deeply. I've read some viewers had negative comments about the scriptwriter, in my opinion, it is fair to say she is darn good.

December 2, 2007 - A Good Day

December 2, 2007, a few good things happened.

Kids put up the Christmas tree by themselves, and it is the first time they decorated outside of our house with the lights. Hubby's foot got injured, is in cast now. Happy to see boys are growing up, can work independently.

Went Christmas shopping, kids bought the toys for tots with their earned money through helping the housework, on our way home, we got the first snow of 2007. Looking out the window, my sensitive son announced “Ah, this reminds me of Winter Sonata”. Is it time to watch this enchanted drama again? Hmmm... I was thinking after watching the last episode of TWSSG next week, I should turn on Winter Sonata again, such a suitable drama with the new snow, brings back the beautiful memory of Junsang. I really need something sweet after the fierce fighting with TaeWang.

Good news the TWSSG shooting is finally finished. Click here for more details from our princess bb. Sad news, wuri HRH got another injury about a week ago, this time it was his foot. He could not get down his car to bid farewell to his fans. Read his fans saw him in crutches. It is sad to see all the crew left the shooting site after almost a year of intensive work there. It's even sadder to see wuri yong joon got hurt again and could not celebrate the completion of this grand work with his coworkers and fans. Good news is, he can now finally get some relief and get his precious body taken care of by certain doctors and nurses. Wonder who those doctors and nurses are, better be super good ones, one thing for sure, they are the super lucky ones who can get in "touch" of our HRH.

Great Great news! Wuri BYJ is in one good piece, although went through many severe injuries, but he completed this challenging dangeous work successfully, and safely. Congratulations YJ! I am so happy for you!

Top star BYJ finished last filming of MBC Wednesday-Thursday drama 'TWSSG' amid injuries.

BYJ filmed the last episode of the 'TWSSG' in Hwaseong, Kyunggi Province in the afternoon on 2. That is filming of the 'TWSSG' having many events and troubles have closed its curtain in grand finale in no less than 20 month since it began first filming in Jeju Island in March of the last year.

In particular, BYJ showed fighting spirit by appearing at the location site in clutches due to injuries one after another and starting filming on that day. Following on an injury of severing a ligament of index finger of his right hand previously, he recently suffered from injuries in nerves in cervical spine and shoulder, etc. Although situation is such that surgery is urgently needed, he put off everything until after ending a filming of the 'TWSSG'.

On the other hand, as much as that day was practically the last filming of the 'TWSSG', which has last broadcasting ahead of it on coming 5, most of main casts of the 'TWSSG' including BYJ, Yoon Taeyoung, Moon Sori, etc., attended, making it more meaningful.

Several tens of BYJ's domestic and overseas fans, whose hearts are anxious upon hearing news of BYJ's injuries, also came to the filming site, despite chilly December weather, and watched BYJ's last filming with anxious heart.

This is my journal dedicated to a person who has a special impact in my life - BYJ. I am happy that there are people who share the same interests come here to have some fun. It is nice to have communications with the people having the common values and interests, not necessarily agreeing with each other in every nitty point, but through conversing with common love, we found joy in life, this is the main purpose of this blog.

Somehow there is one (or a couple) Anonymous reader being angry with Fumi-san and also disagreeing about BYJ being regarded as "national treasure" of Korea. This all came from a Fumi-san's letter I posted after knowing about BYJ's neck injury during performance in TWSSG. Click here for the posting and the comments. I would like to repost my reply to the comments made by the second Anonymous, to express my take on the "national treasure" issue.

Anonymous said...: I'm BYJ fan. I'm a not Korean, but my korean friends told me that, in Korea they cconsider Lee Yong Ae and Jang Dong Gun as national treasures. They're both awarded Best Actor/Actress awards in the Blue Dragon Film Festival. CNN talk Asia did an interview on Jang Dong Gun and ABC broadcasting in America will air a special program on him as well. JDG does movie. I'm into drama not movie, so I don't know how good he is as an actor. But I watched one of Lee Young Ae's 'Dae Jang Geum", and she was good. Anyway, yeah that's the subject of national treasure.

Hello the second Anonymous,

So besides Fumi-san, you want to talk about another subject - national treasure.

I do not care whether you are Korean or not, further more I do not care whether you are BYJ fan or not, so you do not need to declare those to me. To me everything about BYJ is universal, and everyone who comes here is because of BYJ.

As I said and I'll keep saying this, I am spending my time here is because of the virtues of this special person BYJ. I do not have time for any other actor/actress just because they have good skills in there professions or win so many awards. But on the other hands, BYJ does have good skills in his profession and he did win many awards including Blue Dragon. Yet his achievements are way beyond these earthly measurements. Please study more of BYJ's mind in the future if you really care.

One way of studying his mind is by reading his own words and evaluating the drama/movie works he has selected to perform. He is a very prudent person in choosing his words and works, that is why he has fewer works than most of the other actors and actresses, but that also reveals to us that the morals in those carefully selected works reflected the values that he agrees with. So again if you really care, please watch the drama Have We Really Loved, which he risked his career to insist on playing. And because of this action, he is my treasure in this world. (I would reword it here - because of this action, he became my treasure in this world and continues to be more and more of a unique treasure as I know him more through his new works and activities.)

As for national treasure for Korea, this "title" was given by its own people, if they want to pick JDK, why didn't they select him to be in the Hallyu Expo along with LYA. The Korean people chose BYJ and LYA, that said something about the national treasure. After all, BYJ is a treasure that exists in this world and in that country, it is up to the individuals to discover and value him.

Since I started talking, let me share my opinion on the actor and the actress you mentioned. Thanks to BYJ, I got to know something about Korea and Korean entertainers. With the limited time I have, I got to watch 2 works by LYA ("Papa" and "Dae Jang Geum"), and 2 works by JDG (drama "Fall in Love with the Hostess" 爱上女主播, and movie "Wu Ji" 无极). LYA is an excellent actress, she is pretty and have good performing skills. She is shrewd in selecting the drama "dae Jang Geum", even though she looked a bit old performing Jang Geum in her young age. As for JDG, although "Fall in Love with the Hostess" was an acclaimed drama, I do not fancy it, and JDG is just another supposedly attractive male in the romance, I could not find any special sparks about him. The hardest part is watching him playing in Wuji, I felt sorry for him in picking this disgracing work to play, I concluded that this actor might have the skills but definitely not the vision. I could not finish WuJi and that's the end of my time spent on JDG as well. After all, no matter what the world is saying, there is only ONE man I care to spend time on in the whole wide entertainment world, that is BYJ, his own country should be proud of him.

This time I want to do what I can do as a member of YJ family. My thought may be wrong, but if Yongjoon’s body has no more problem at all, let my matter be to anywhere. It is a matter of course.)

Dear Kim Jonghak nim, this is a letter to you. It’s a bit strange, isn’t it? I, a Korean, am asking you on this board of JOB.

I am not sure you know it or not, but I am a man of Bae Yongjoon’s family by HN fumi who is known to YJ’s world family. I am a middle-aged man, a little younger than you. My wife had been a staff of MBC since 1980’s (though she doesn’t work at present), and she had a number of chances to work with you. When you worked for MBC, I met you several times. Well, it was already some time before woori Bae Yongjoon made his debut.

I know you read neither HP nor e-mails. I heard one of your old friends who is now in U.S.A. says he cannot contact you. Therefore, I think if I write to you here in JOB, I might be able to reach you.

What I want to ask you now is please postpone your shootings for only 10 days. Otherwise, I would like you to curtail Yongjoon’s scenes as much as possible, and to try to use his stunt man as often as possible. ---In anyway, I want to ask you to take top priority to and think about the actor Bae Yongjoon’s physical condition and health.

As for the accident this time, there was a cause in little rehearsal and insufficient safe measures to be taken. I well know it was not your responsibility. As you know, there heard many voices which want the filming to be postponed.

If it should be 100% guaranteed that woori Yongjoon will never have aftereffects of this injury, it would be okay if you continue shooting. If so, Yongjoon has to endure his pains, but if thus it can be guaranteed 100% that he will have no aftereffects, it might be another story woori Yongjoon family could barely endure. It is a kind of judgment which professional doctors should do, isn’t it?

In case Kim Jonghak nim, you continue shooting under your judgment, and if there is any possibility of aftereffects left, even if a little, you should postpone the shooting and should do all the judgments primarily on the physical condition of woori Yongjoon who is an essential existence for our Korea.

Whatever conclusion you may come to, by giving the first priority to Yongjoon’s physical condition, Yongjoon fans all over the world will support you positively enough. I think, under these various conditions, it will be better for you to suspend the shooting for a little while, or to create circumstances for Yongjoon to have a good rest, so as to reconsider the further formation of TWSSG. In case you postpone the regular broadcasts, you can offer various make-up programs such as extra version, highlights, TWSSG special, etc. And if you tell them to, MBC will understand it. Please do not entrust this judgment to Yongjoon. As far as his physical condition is concerned, do not believe what he says. I think Yongjoon is considerably ill-conditioned.

Bae Yongjoon is an important person, far more times important than TWSSG. Not only for the global Yongjoon family, but also for Korea, Yongjoon himself is far more important than TWSSG. Anyway, there is a little more shooting left, but in the final judgment, you should take top priority to Yongjoon’s health, and you should decide yourself. I think you yourself should judge everything of Yongjoon’s physical conditions, and his future health.

If you judge any alterations of program formation based on top priority to Yongjoon’s physical condition, our world Yongjoon’s fans will powerfully support you. Today YJ nim does not have to film.
But starting from tomorrow, they will film his parts.
According to the overseas families YJ found it strenuous to even hold up a sword yesterday, hence the filming was stopped half way.

I am an actor (extra) from Jeju who is currently working in the Hotel of Korean Air (?).

Today we just completed the last part of TWSSG.

BYJ, LJA(Lee Ji Ah), MSR (Moon So Ri), YTY(Yoon Tae Young), LBL(Chero), WKR(Wo Kuang Rok) were there as well.

We were in the same scenes as BYJ, BYJ nearly had no NGs (retakes). His lines were performed perfectly. It appears that he has a thorough understanding of and has fully digested his character (the king).

(H: Since Episode 11, especially episode 15, 17 and 19, he is becoming more and more into a real king. His performance is getting better and better (not that it was not good before, but it was already very good, but after being a king, he is BETTER and BETTER), I truly believe that the role of Dam Duk is perfect for revealing HRH's true being. That's why he looked so real and perfect in these episodes. Love you more and more HRH!)

BYJ is truly a Hallyu star. Many Japanese and Korean fans were patiently waiting at the filming site with their cameras. When he appears, everyone waves to greet him, and loudly cheers with ‘I love you!’, ‘Wishing you the best of health’, ‘Please take care of your body!’, ‘He is so handsome’.

More Rules for You HRH

Two days ago I had a thought that the Bae Land seems to be quieter than before. There were not many circlations of our HRH's old pictures, not many articles discussing about his old works like WLS, Hotelier, or HWRL, not many new fan fics emerging. Obviously it was because TWSSG has been airing, all the bae fans have been busy TVanting, veohing, downloading, translating, screen capturing and thirstily reading the story and discussing about the ending of the Legend. Literally, people, or at least me, have been obsessed by our prince/king and the legend and guess what, I just realized that I missed the most important part of this whole thing - I forgot to pray for the safty of our hero, our prince, our king!

At the beginning when we heard the news that he was taking up the main role in TWSSG, and during the long time that we were anticipating the shooting of this drama, we have been praying and reminding him to be careful in those fighting scenes. But once it started airing, as the story proceeds to be more and more interesting, and our HRH grows from a carefree prince to a honorable king, as his charms are becoming stronger and stronger, our focus shifted away from concerning his safety and well-being to appreciating his beauty, his skills and the story. So now you see what had happened, the least we expected - he got severely injured!

Sorry I made it sound like it is our fault, but is it us who are expecting to see him more and more, in various styles, enjoy his smiles and outburst, enjoy his kicks and sword fighting, enjoy his flying and spinning, is it us that he is trying so hard to pay back our love?

It hurt me when I heard the words cervical spin injury and ligament torn. I do not want to see him get hurt any more. No pain should ever touch this man any more. I am settled to see him only in CFs and melodramas like Winter Sonata or Hotelier, no, not even Hotelier, in which he was hurt by that Board-Director Kim.

No more 007-like spy movies, no more marshal art movies, not even any movies that require crying, the only acceptable showings are comedy only, please! And whenever you get hurt, get the treatment immediately, you take care of your body not just for yourself now, you do it for your family around the world, you know that right?

I tend to be a forceful mother at home. I see myself setting rules for wuri yong joon again. This reminded me of a posting I made into BYJ Official Site on June 21, 2005, when we heard that wuri yong joon was sent to the ER after shooting April Snow, caused by fatigue. I vividly remember that I wrote this emotional letter while I was at work (Sorry I broke the rule of focusing only on work while at work, but on that day, I could not help! Today I happened to be ill at home, so I am free to care for you, okay my prince!).

Here was that old message, to my surprise, it was translated into Korean and made into Newen and later on the report got posted on www.onlybyj.com with English translation. 2+ years passed by, I think those rules still apply, plus the above rules I set for you when selecting your future works. Comedy, man, comedy and CFs, that is enough to please your fans than giving up your health. Thank you thank you thank you prince if you just listen to us once!

Or if you chose to be away from the screen and only take care of your business, I will still support you, remember my heart will be with you always.

As the news that BYJ was hospitalized due to exhaustion was reported all
at once on 20, the visits by fans who feel sorry about this are pouring

Numerous BYJ's fan, 'Family' are reporting BYJ's health state which is
reported by media one after another, and praying for his quick recovery.
In particular, on teh bulletin board of BYJ's Korean homepage, a fan who
appears to be a Japanere fan introduced herself as 'h' and posted 8
things 'Yon-sama' BYJ should not do from now on with the title of

This fan opened her writing by saying "You are so young, only 33" &
"You should be healthier and happier." Continuing on, this fan said
"For the 'Family'(BYJ fans) in entire world, I felt responsibility
of creating several rules," and introduced 'No more' in 8 items.

According to it, the first do not smoke cigarrete any more, the
second is not to work more than 10 hours a day, the third is not
to sleep any less than 7~8 hours a day, the fourth is not to drink
alcohol too much, the fifth is not to lose weight any more and to
gain weight a little, the sixth is not to be any more perfect than
this, teh seventh is as there is nothing other than health that
gives joy to fans, no matter he smiles or cries, do no longer make
efforts to smile 'Yon-sama smile' even when he is tired. And as
the last, eighth one, she 'asked' that he should not go to ER in

I think our YJ should learn from this, he needs to learn to take care of himself first. He always takes care of other people and forget about himself. This is not allowed to happen any more! Hi H, your rules are good reminder to YJ, but I don't think it will be much help because he is a man that sets very high standard for himself. He continuously pushes himself to surplus what he did before to reach his potential. This is evident from the improvement on his various acting roles in the past 10 years. In addition to this, he is also very concerned about people around him eg staff and familes around the world. His shoulders must be very heavier with all the responsibilities & expectations he put on himself. He must be very tried, mentally and physically because he is a perfectionist. I don't know if he would ever changed, otherwise he just would not be the YJ we loved. I do wish though that he will because his health is the number 1 concern of us. We love him as he is !

All the previous negotiation sessions lead to this one, the one that is so brief but impressive. I still could not get over this tiny negotiation episode, partly because our prince looked so cool. It's amazing that our HRH can produce so many varying images in different hair styles and apparel., and emit various charms.

Oh, you should already realize that our HRH would have a scene to carry someone on his back in almost every drama he played. This time, it's the Black team whom he came to help. A couple of the key players got stabbed by the assassinates sent by the Yellow team.

Damdeok: Are you okay?

Damdeok: Let’s go to the doctor, can you walk? (I'll carry you to the doctor's ...)

The Black team leader refuse to be seen by the doctor since they would lose the right to play the game the next day if they were known to be injured.

Can't see the doctors, but they are heavily bleeding ... at this urgent moment, Damdeok thought about Kiha who knows the magic of healing ...

Damdeok turned to Suzinee ...

Damdeok: Can you get a horse for me?

I can't get my eyes off his face, manly mesmerizing when he is sweatingly serious!

Szni: Three ryangs (dollars) for a day. (Want to get a horse from me? There is a price, your highness prince!)

Just as how he was brought up to learn to hide his strengths and skills, when it comes to negotiation, his exceptional ability again surprised all. Suzinee, as a "professional" negotiator, you still have a long way to learn from our HRH - His Royal Handsome Prince.

At watching the game between the Yellow team and the Blue team, our prince did not like the violent way it was played ...

Damdeok: Can they do things like that? (Referring to the Yellow team beating up the opponents violently)

The "know-it-all" Suzinee was eager to explain the game rules to this seemingly ignorant nerd ...

Szni: It’s okay to play like that as long as they don’t touch each other’s horses in kyukku. They can hit, or poke with jangsi (the name of stick in kyukku).

Szni: And then, they might be thrown from their horses... broken. and then dead...

Really?! Our prince thought.

I thought that’s the rule of kyukku.....

Szni: I’m not scared of anything, because of my lack of education. But, I have a question for you. It’s natural for me, just like a street person, to get the money first when there is a chance. Episode 4.5 and 5 are my favorite so far. Love to see how Sikini (SNK) and Damdeok (DD) met and the naughty interactions between the two, especially about money...

Isn't SKN something, she dare to negotiate with our prince DD persistently, well only before she realized that he was a prince. So our fearless SKN hopped on the cart with our prince. She is definitely over-acting on leaning against our prince, just to make us feel more jealousy.
